Alternative History Contest

I forgot to mention that the other day I ran across a contest announcement at Paradox for alt hist flash (1,500 words or less). Okay, it's a loooong-shot, and the closing date isn't until June 15th, but I've had an idea percolating around in the back of my head for some time anyway. This might give me a constructive outlet ;-)

Wandered here from JenWrites.

Good heads up on the Pardox thing, thanks. I got a glowing rejection from Paradox... which are the worst kind, really.

I should be able to get something together by June.

I also noticed in your profile that you had something published at Peridot. Cool, I met the editor at a conference and he seemed to be a pretty nice guy.
Hi dotar_sojat, nice to meet you!

Congrats on the glowing comments from Paradox (though I agree, the "great story, but couldn't quite buy it" thing gets old really fast). But still, I don't think he's an easy editor to please. I only subbed there once; just haven't had the right kind of stories to try there. That contest caught my eye though.

Damn! I can't find it now, but somewhere on LJ I came across a link soliciting submissions for an alternative-history "text-book". It sounded like a terrific idea, but they had very specific directions and the periods they wanted didn't grab me. I thought I'd book marked it though... If I can find it again, I'll post it here.

And yes, Ty Drago was really nice to work with (course, I'm predisposed to love anyone who buys a story from me ;->). But cool you got to meet him!
I certainly hope that Ty Drago is an easy editor to please, as he's going to be getting one of my short fantasy pieces as soon as his next reading period opens.

He was a great person to meet, and a good speaker, too. I took him to a Korean restaurant- I don't think he had ever been to one, much less knew we had 'em in central Oklahoma.

Best of luck with your sub to Peridot! I have another story I think I might send his way whenif it comes back from Writers of the Future.

WotF? They frustrate me so! I've been a quarter finalist three times now, but not ever 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Curses!

But still, quarter finalist is an accomplishment! I've only subbed once before, and certainly didn't get that far. This time, I've heard nothing yet, and at least some people have already had rejection notices, so fingers crossed...
